Jabuka regatta 2016

November 14, 2016

As every November in last 5 years, we attended Jabuka regatta in Croatia. Every year it is around 100 boats which start on Friday at 11pm and sail thru the night and day. The path is from Vodice, around Jabuka island and back to Vodice.

This year we were not complete crew which used to go together. Peter and Gabi had to stay at home because of theirs responsibilities.

That was an opportunity to invite new crew members which brought different skills and definitely helped us to achieve nice results.

Years before we were used to sail on Elan 350 which is not bad racing cruiser, this year we chartered Beneteau First 450. Really nice boat, sailed fast, comfortable in quite heavy conditions.

Because of weather forecast, the start of the regatta had to be postponed from 11pm to 6am the other day. Also the path was shortened, because the wind was around 40 knots, which could be dangerous for small cruiser boats.

Our start was excellent, we were among the first 25 boats. Also put up the spinnaker without a problem. The second time we had to put up spinnaker, the lift got stuck in the mast and the wind above 20 knots ripped off the spinnaker. That slowed us down to the place around 40.

Thankfully the boat was fast, we could make it over approximately 15 boats.

Our result was 28/89 boats. In the category we ended up 5/10.

Looking forward to the regatta in 2017, we will definitely charter the First 450 again.

One of the highlight for me was the discussion with Milan Kolacek, the best yachtman from Czech Republic.

He submitted himself to Vendeé Globe 2020 and we agreed, that I will become part of his team to help him out with the marketing and fundraising.

I have to mention also Jakub Kren, who spent his time with making video from the regatta, here.
